then make sure the Show Tool Tips box is checked.
- Where can you change how your cursor is displayed for
different tools?
These are set in the Displays and Cursors Preferences.
- I want to add an additional Plug-in Directory. What would

First, create the directory on your hard drive then, add
it in the Plug-Ins and Scratch Disks Preferences.
- What does it mean if you are working on a large Photoshop
file and see the alert, "Your scratch disk is full"?
What are some of the solutions available to you?
If you don't have enough Scratch Disk space when editing
or working on a large file, you will see this alert. If
you see this error message, you need to specify one or more
hard drives or hard drive partitions that have enough free
space to Photoshop or optimize and defragment your hard
disks.
- What are some of the advantages of using the File Browser
instead of a desktop folder?
You can view a thumbnail and metadata for unopened files,
create new folders, rename files, move files, and delete
files. It will save you time by letting you find and open
files you need.
- Describe the difference between a 'flattened' PSD file
and an 'unflattened' PSD file. Why would you use one form
of the file over the other?
An unflattened PSD file has all its layers intact whereas
a flattened PSD file has only one background layer. You
need the unflattened file to take advantage of all of Photoshop's
capabilities. Use a flattened file when you are ready to
save the image for the web, use the file in another program
or you want to cut down the file size.
- Describe two ways to create images in Photoshop.
From the Menu Bar, select File > New or use the shortcut
keys: Ctrl+N. Then, complete the New Document Dialog box.

with annotations and as a copy. Where would I administer
these commands?
In the File Save As dialog box, check the As a Copy, Layers,
and Annotations check boxes.
- Where would you find subcommands for Menu items such as
File, Edit, Image, Layer, Select, Filter, View, Window and
Help?
In items marked with a small black triangle.
- What does a small black triangle in a Menu subcommand
indicate?
A small black triangle indicates a submenu command.
- What do three small dots after a Menu subcommand mean?
3 small dots indicate a command that includes a dialog box
where changes and values can be entered.
- How would you bring up the Status Bar?
Go to menu bar and select Window > Status Bar
- If I wanted to check the amount of RAM and scratch disk
used to process my image as I work on it, where would I
look?
On the status bar and select Scratch Sizes from the popup
menu.
- What are some of the benefits to using the Status Bar
while you work on a file?
- Display the file sizes
- Display the color profile used by the image
- Display the amount of RAM and scratch size utilized
by the image.
- Display the percentage of time actually doing an operation
instead of reading or writing the scratch disk.
- Display the amount of time it took to do the last task.
- Display the current active tool.
- What file format is most used for continuous tone images
that are prepared for web use?

It’s best to use Photoshop to adjust images.
- What are Keyboard Shortcuts and why would you want to
use these?
Keyboard Shortcuts are combinations of keystrokes and letters
that you can use instead of using your mouse to select options
on the menu. They save time.
- Where can I quickly find Keyboard Shortcuts for Menu Bar
commands?
In the online help or the commands in the Menu Bar.
